It’s easy to identify spongy moths, formerly known as gypsy moths, at any stage of their life cycle. Adult females are larger than males, with wingspans of 55 to 70 mm. They are primarily white, and the males are brown. Furthermore, you may notice the egg masses of these insects. These egg masses are a buff yellow-brown color with fine hairs. The size of these egg masses varies quite a bit. The smaller masses are about the size of a quarter. However, the relatively large ones reach 3 inches long.
