Did you know?

The bronze birch borer is a native North American pest that is considered a serious threat to Connecticut’s birch trees. These beetles have a dark bronze coloring and can measure up to 1/2 inch in length. The bronze birch borer is considered the most destructive of all birch pests in Connecticut.

Adult female beetles lay their eggs in cracks of vulnerable birth trees in June. The beetles bore into the host tree during the summer months and feed on the tree’s inner bark as well as the tree’s foliage.

Adequate hydration and tree maintenance can help keep your birch trees strong and prevent an attack from a host insect like the bronze birch borer. If you’d like to discuss a tree maintenance plan for your birch trees, or have noticed signs of infestation and would like to discuss treatment options, call or text Eric to schedule your free consultation.

Did you know?

Verticillium Wilt is a fungal disease that lives in soil and can lay dormant for years, making the disease particularly difficult to control. It can also be spread by planting infected seeds or by insects that consume infected plants. It primarily infects plants through their roots, but can also spread through wounds in stems, branches, and trunks. The infection causes the plant’s vascular system tissue to become blocked, preventing water from reaching its leaves.
